#BlastFromThePast - The original Broadway cast perform at the 1996 Tony Award

It doesn't matter where you're from, if you're a fan of musical theatre you've heard of RENT! The gritty, important and incredibly poignant show defined a generation and changed Broadway forever. Without this scrappy underdog of a production it's unlikely we'd have the smash hit HAMILTON or the feminist sass-fest SIX. This Friday we're taking you back to 1996 when the original Broadway cast performed at the Tony Awards.

This video also includes the moments Jonathan Larson posthumously won big at the Tony Awards, so it's certainly one for the history books...

All together now - "THE OPPOSITE OF WAR ISN'T PEACE, IT'S CREATION!!!!!"

The thing about RENT is, once you start looking at videos, it's a wormhole of emotion and singalongs that is pretty hard to get out of! So we couldn't resist also adding this little gem from 2008, where the original cast returned to the Tony Awards to pay tribute to Jonathan and the show, and sing with the final Broadway cast.

WE'RE NOT CRYING, YOU ARE!!!

Each week, we're going to bring you a new golden moment from Musical Theatre history in our #BlastFromThePast segment. Make sure you check back next week to see what's coming up...
