Young Frankenstein review round-up

Pure joy! That's the overriding feeling this merry bunch of critics are feeling after a night out at the theatre! After a successful out of town try-out, the raucous YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (based on the 1974 film of the same name) had its long-awaited opening in London's West End on 10 October 2017 and if the reviews we woke up to are anything to go by, it's going to be a big success.

We've rounded up the best reviews from press night along with cool features, behind-the-scenes video clips and interviews from the red (sorry...green!) carpet...

Tony Peters: Young Frankenstein arrives in London in a full-on, flat-out hilarious romp with a cast at the top of its game who just revel in playing everything larger than life — just the way Brook’s brand of comedy demands...

Mark Shenton: It's sole function is to be a laughter generator; and as such, it is thoroughly successful, as I just couldn't stop laughing...Here is a show in a vaudevillian music hall tradition that's very legible to British audiences, steeped as we are in pantomime, yet also executed with real Broadway theatrical aplomb...

Henry Hitchings: Laughs abound, not least when the Monster dons a top hat and tails to launch into Irving Berlin’s Puttin’ on the Ritz...it's hard not to succumb to the infectious daftness of this escapist crowd-pleaser...

Libby Purves: Whatever your doubts about making musicals out of beloved films, this one pretty much works just as well as The Producers did before it. Sometimes you just want a bit of fun...
