Get an exclusive behind the scenes look at the iconic Rite of Spring as it tours in Paris.

Pina Bausch's The Rite of Spring | The evolution of an epic
The Rite of Spring, or Le Sacre du printemps in French, is the title of an iconic piece of music by Igor Stravinsky. The work premiered at The Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in May 1913. The music was written for the Ballets Russes helmed by Sergei Diaghilev. The original choreography which accompanied the music was bold, wild, and visceral. The audience was outraged by the radical work and rioted in the stands, an event which has gone down in theatre history. In 1975 Pina Bausch created her interpretation of Stravinsky's epic, filling the stage with peat and her powerful choreography. Now in 2025 a restaging of Pina’s production is danced by a specially assembled company of dancers from the African continent. This touring production by Pina Bausch Foundation, École des Sables and Sadler’s Wells returns to the Paris theatre, celebrating the next evolution of a fantastic piece of history. Audio Described: Dancing Through Time
In 1978, Pina Bausch created Kontakthof alongside her collaborator Rolf Borzik and company, Tanztheater Wuppertal. Whilst creating it she often mused on the idea of seeing the same cast dance her iconic work when much older.
