As the big night looms, there is plenty to enjoy in the final episode of the Olivier Awards’ Facebook series, with appearances from Janie Dee, Elaine Paige and, of course, Perry!

Perry asked Janie Dee (nominated in the Best … category for Follies at the National Theatre) if there was just one musical theatre song she could sing for the rest of her life, what would it be. After jokingly saying that that was a “mean” question, she plumped for ‘(When I Married) Mr Snow’ from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel. Not only did Dee’s performance in the NT production of that very musical win her an Olivier Award in 1992, the actress mentioned how the song had remained part of her life, whether it be as a lullaby to her children or later as a mainstay of her cabaret set.

Also taking part in this episode of Road to the Oliviers, hosted by CEO of SOLT and UK Theatre and producer of the Oliviers Julian Bird, was Elaine Paige who reminisced about what it was like to win an Olivier Award for Evita in 1978 (although they were then named the SWET Awards after the Society of West End Theatre) and how she sang ‘Rainbow High’ during the ceremony.

Playwright Jessica Swale and critic Lyn Gardner also discussed the nominations for Best New Play and Best New Musical.

Why not have a watch before you make your final predictions. No more sleeps to go now!
