Follies is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Goldman. The story concerns a reunion in a crumbling Broadway theatre, scheduled for demolition, of the past performers of the "Weismann's Follies", a musical revue (based on the Ziegfeld Follies), that played in that theatre between the world wars.

Persona. During a performance of Electra, an actress suddenly falls silent. What follows is a rupture: two women drawn into an intense, unsettling encounter where speech breaks down and the boundaries between self and role give way.

The Authenticator reunites the acclaimed creative partnership of writer Winsome Pinnock and director Miranda Cromwell following their celebrated production Rockets and Blue Lights at the National Theatre and Royal Exchange Manchester. Pinnock is one of Britain's most important and distinctive playwrights — a writer whose work has always placed the experiences of Black British women at the centre of the stage. Cromwell is one of the most exciting directors of her generation, whose productions include Death of a Salesman at the Young Vic, Piccadilly Theatre, and Broadway.
The full creative team includes set designer Jon Bausor, costume designer Kinnetia Isidore (who also designed Nye for the NT), lighting designer Aideen Malone, sound designer Tingying Dong, composer Benjamin Kwasi Burrell (The Motive and the Cue, Small Island), and movement director Shelley Maxwell. The Authenticator is an Edgerton New Plays Commission, with additional support from the Sir Peter Shaffer Charitable Foundation.

Interviewed by Angus MacKechnie, this wide-ranging conversation takes in sixty years of stage and screen — from Ophelia at the Old Vic fresh out of drama school ("a baptism of fire"), to Cabaret's Sally Bowles, to Cleopatra in the Olivier with Anthony Hopkins, to seventeen years as M in the Bond franchise, to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and everything in between. Along the way there are stories about Ian McKellen, Ian McShane, Billy Connolly, Steve Coogan, Dustin Hoffman, Sam Mendes, Peter Hall, and a black leather glove that has been passed between theatrical colleagues more than a hundred times since the 1980s.

About Judi Dench
Dame Judith Olivia Dench (1934) is an English actress. Dench attended an all-girls Quaker school, then followed with a brief stop at the York School of Art before changing course and heading off to London's Central School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art.
Dench made her professional debut in 1957 with the Old Vic Company. Over the following few years, she performed in several of Shakespeare's plays, in such roles as Ophelia in Hamlet, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth. Although most of her work during this period was in theatre, she also branched into film work and won a BAFTA Award as Most Promising Newcomer. She drew rave reviews for her leading role in the musical Cabaret in 1968.
Over the next two decades, Dench established herself as one of the most significant British theatre performers, working for the National Theatre Company and the Royal Shakespeare Company. She received critical acclaim for her work on television during this period, in the series A Fine Romance (1981–1984) and As Time Goes By (1992–2005), in both of which she held starring roles. Her film appearances included supporting roles in major films, such as A Room with a View (1986), before she rose to international fame as M in GoldenEye (1995), a role she continued to play in James Bond films until Spectre (2015).

Author Michael Morpurgo
Sir Michael Morpurgo OBE FRSL FKC DL, born Michael Andrew Bridge, is a writer, playwright, performer and librettist.
The author of more than 150 children’s books, he has sold over 35 million copies worldwide in almost 40 languages. The National Theatre adaptation of his most well-known novel War Horse (1982) was first produced in 2007 and has since been seen by more than ten million people in over 100 cities around the world.
A former teacher, Michael Morpurgo is currently the President of Book Trust. Between 2003–05, he was Children’s Laureate.
Alongside his wife Clare Lane, he is co-founder of the charity Farms for City Children.
In 2018 he was knighted for services to literature and charity.

The Handspring Puppet Company spent their first five years touring plays for children throughout Southern Africa. They pivoted into political theatre for adults in 1985, after the State of Emergency was declared in South Africa.
Handspring’s presentation of animal puppets as animals rather than as anthropomorphic beings is regarded by Kohler as the defining contribution of their career.
Their puppets are held in several public collections including the V&A Museum.
