The Olivier Awards are a big highlight of the theatre calendar so it was disappointing, though understandable, when the event was cancelled. Now, there’s a chance to celebrate all the ceremonies that have come before in a special programme, Olivier Awards – Greatest Moments, to be broadcast on ITV in the awards’ original slot, 10.15pm on 5 April 2020. Now, that’s something to look forward to.
2019
Following the critically-acclaimed Broadway hit run of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King & I and its record-breaking season at the London Palladium, Bartlett Sher’s production will head off on a major UK tour from spring 2019, starring Jose Llana and Annalene Beechey in the lead roles. Shall we dance along?
2018
A stream of A-listers including Paul McCartney, Bryan Cranston, Judi Dench, Henry Cavill, Whoopi Goldberg, Jack Black, Steve Martin and more have contributed to a music video for ‘The Hero – A West End & Friends Tribute’ alongside stars of London’s West End (Charlie Stemp, Marisha Wallace, Cleve September, Kerry Ellis and oodles more #StageFaves). Everyone involved wished to pay thanks to servicemen and women around the world and to raise money for the UK charity, Help For Heroes.
Fifty years on from the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr and 30 years since the first performance of the late Martin Smith’s musical, Hackney Empire joins forces with the London Musical Theatre Orchestra for performances on 30 June and 1 July 2018.
