Fame The Musical turns 30

We challenge you to read this news without humming... "Fame! I'm gonna live forever"... "Baby, remember MY name... Remember. Remember". And, if you're too young to remember the tune, for goodness sake, educate yourself by booking tickets now for the 30th-anniversary production of screen-to-stage hit FAME THE MUSICAL, which launches an extensive tour from Manchester in July.

The team behind Footloose will this year launch a 30th-anniversary tour of another 1980 film phenomenon. The new production of Fame The Musical launches from Manchester Palace on 20 July 2018.

Based on the 1980 film, Fame The Musical is the international smash hit sensation that follows the lives of students at New York’s High School For The Performing Arts as they navigate their way through the highs and lows, the romances and the heartbreaks and the ultimate elation of life. This bittersweet but uplifting triumph of a show explores the issues that confront many young people today: prejudice, identity, pride, literacy, sexuality, substance abuse and perseverance.

To date, Fame the Musical has had seven West End runs since opening in Miami in 1988 and continues to be one of the best-loved musicals across the world.

The 30th-anniversary production is presented by Selladoor Worldwide, producers of Footloose, Avenue Q, Little Shop of Horrors and Flashdance – The Musical, with Adam Paulden and Dan Looney. Fame will be directed and choreographed by Nick Winston with design by Morgan Large. Casting is still to be announced.

David Hutchinson, Executive Creative Director of Selladoor, said:

“This new tour for 2018 celebrates the 30 years since the premiere of the production and will very much have its roots in the style and nostalgia of the original musical. Selladoor are dedicated to bringing large scale theatre to as broad an audience as possible across the UK and internationally, and we’re delighted to add another classic musical to our ever-growing portfolio. Featuring the Oscar-winning title song and a cast of outstanding dancers, singers, musicians and rappers as they transform from star-struck pupils to superstars. Fame The Musical will indeed ‘live forever.'”

Following Manchester, Fame The Musical will visit Glasgow, Llandudno, Blackpool, Tunbridge, Bradford, Aberdeen, Woking, Sheffield, Bridlington, Edinburgh, Ipswich, Brighton, Birmingham, Aylesbury and Shrewsbury, where the current schedule concludes on 2 February 2019.
