Our #FirstNightTakeover series continues with Perry O’Bree attending the West End opening of the delicious WAITRESS at the Adelphi Theatre. Perry was there on the Red Carpet – rubbing shoulders with Carrie Hope Fletcher and Cuba Gooding Jr – plus post-show there was a chance to chat to cast members Peter Hannah and Shaun Prendergast. And did we mention Perry squeezed in meeting awesome Waitress composer Sara Bareilles too? It’s amazing what a little baking can do.

Currently playing its third hit year on Broadway, Waitress brings with it an all-female lead creative team – a West End musical first – and Perry also includes in his #FirstNightTakeover video footage of the final curtain speeches from director Diane Paulus and composer Sara Bareilles. Paulus thanked the “the amazing theatre community here in London”, while Bareilles commented on the fact that the female creative team “wasn’t a casting agenda, we are artists who just happen to be women”.

US stars Katharine McPhee and Jack McBrayer join Shaun PrendergastLaura Baldwin, Peter Hannah, David Hunter and Marisha Wallace in the West End company which also includes Kelly Agbowu, Piers Bate, Nicole Raquel Dennis, Michael Hamway, Stephen Leask, Chris McGuigan, Olivia Moore, Nathaniel Morrison, Sarah O’Connor, Leanne Pinder and Charlotte Riby.

Based on the 2007 motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress has a book by Jessie Nelson, a score by Sara Bareilles, choreography by Lorin Latarro and direction by Diane Paulus
