Tickets to the star-studded special staged concert of Les Miserables were like gold-dust last year when the West End's longest-running musical moved temporarily to the Gielgud Theatre while its home at the Queen's Theatre was refurbished. Now's your chance to see it - or see it again... and help out those suffering during coronavirus...
It’s hard to imagine the West End getting back to normal at the moment, but preparations are still being made for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s brand new version of Cinderella, opening at London’s Gillian Lynne Theatre in October 2020, including the exciting casting of Victoria Hamilton-Barritt as the Stepmother opposite Carrie Hope Fletcher in the title role.
In light of the ‘current global circumstances’ in relation to the coronavirus, the world premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical Cinderella, starring Carrie Hope Fletcher, has been delayed to 28 October 2020, previewing from 9 October. Originally the much-anticipated musical was due to begin previews on 28 August.
It’s the traditional fairy tale with a modern twist and a very modern Cinderella as played by Carrie Hope Fletcher in Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Zippel’s new musical, based on an original idea by Emerald Fennell, opening for previews at the Gillian Lynne Theatre on 28 August 2020.
It’s not been smooth running when it comes to the role of Thénardier in the new production of Les Misérables at London’s Sondheim Theatre. After doctors telling actor Gerard Carey he must rest his voice until the end of February, Matt Lucas saved the day by reprising the part but has now suffered a back injury. What a trouper Matt Lucas is. Having heard that Gerard Carey, originally playing Thénardier in Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre, had been taken ill, he rescheduled his Christmas plans and stepped into the breach. Lucas will be Master of the House for six weeks from 23 December 2019 with Carey expected to return on 3 February 2020.

We knew the West End production of Les Misérables was moving to the Gielgud Theatre while the Queen’s was being refurbished but we couldn’t have predicted that the venue would be hosting the concert version of the ever-popualr musical and that the cast would feature Michael Ball (Javert), Alfie Boe (Jean Valjean), Carrie Hope Fletcher (Fantine) and Matt Lucas (Thénardier).
